Week 1 (The Introduction)

First week (Jan 14-19)

On the 14th of January, we had our very first flag ceremony in TAU. And then we had a meeting for our living here in TAU CEC, because there are rules we have to follow. In the afternoon, we had a grand opening ceremony. It was the first time I heard the National Anthem of Indonesia being played in another country by my own ear. I was so touched that I almost cried. It was an overwhelming feeling to have that experience in my life.

On the 15th of January, we met our supervisors. We were explained about the things we’re going to do in the next week in the school. After that we had a  basic Filipino language class, we learnt a lot of basic conversations in the class. In the late afternoon we had our english test. It was just a simple test. Thankfully my score was good despite the technical difficulty I had that day.

On the 16th of January, we had our first visit in the San Vicente Elementary School. Me and my friend, we both assigned in the school and we were both from preschool education. We thought we were just going to teach the kindergarten, but our supervisor said we were going to teach kindergarten and grade 1. In the first week, I taught the grade 1 and will swap with my friend for the next week. So, I did my observation in the grade 1 that day. The kids were all so cute. One of the boys, named Liam gave me a drawing. He gave it to me so shyly, he said it was a drawing of a beach and just ran off like that. My buddy and my cooperating teacher always told me things each other said to, so I know a lot of words in Filipino and also Ilokano. We also shared the similarity between our languages.

On the 17th of January, we all went to meet the majors and the governor. First, we went to visit the major of Camiling. He was very sweet and kind. We were talking about about Indonesia and Thailand with the Major. And he gave us free foods 🙂 . Before going to the major of Santa Ignacia, we went to visit the resident of the first Filipino to be a UN General. After that we went to the major of Santa Ignacia, she was also very sweet to us, we were laughing so much in her office. After that, we had to meet the Governor of Tarlac, but since we still have time, we went to SM Tarlac to buy foods and stuffs. After that we went to the Governor’s office. We met the Beautiful Governor of Tarlac. She was so beautiful, I can’t help but to admire her beauty.

On the 18th of January, that day was our second day of observation. It was our first time to go to school alone without any buddies, nothing happened though Lol. That day I received another drawings from the students. I think children all around the world is the same. They’re all noisy haha. But I think that’s what interests me teaching children. On the other side, they’re all so cute.

On the 19th of January, we went to Nayong Filipino. In there, there a lot of Filipino’s traditional houses. After that we went to SM Clark to buy stuff. On 20th of January we went to the market again to buy rice.
